Despite the cold weather, shoppers lined up outside the Manhattan Vintage Show last Friday. Co-owner Amy Abrams said they had vintage items for all eras and price points, including clothing and accessories. The shoppers were there for the triennial event, hoping to find 1950s outfits or a Versace leather jacket.

Fortunately for consumers, over 90 different dealers from around the world were featured in the expo (though the majority were U.S.-based). Others, like Buis New York, specialized in vintage designer from all decades, selling rare, one-of-a-kind pieces from labels like Yohji Yamamoto, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Moschino. Some vendors, like Ally Bird Vintage, concentrated on 1970s pieces from that era, including band tees, leather blazers, and striped knits. Even though Abrams still had her preferences, it was crucial to her to have this authentic product mix. According to Abrams, "I leaned a lot more on Y2K, menswear, and workwear." The [younger] generation is more concerned with vintage and sustainability, so I also wanted to target a younger clientele.

The clothing that attendees donned while perusing the booths, however, was perhaps even nicer than the antique finds to be found. A lot of customers came dressed to the nines. The event is always a chance for attendees to exhibit their individual style and connect with other like-minded fashion enthusiasts, according to Abrams, who was dressed in a stunning Missoni caftan from 1971.

There’s some people who’ve been coming to the show for 20 years, and they totally dress up.”

Emerging model Amelia Gray was observed by Magzy examining items from a stylish 2000s outfit, which included a Louis Vuitton x Murakami purse. Mesiah Sweetgrass, a customer, was sporting a vintage terrycloth jacket that he had bought from Zingara Vintage, which had a booth in the showcase. Sweetgrass observed, "Erin [Silvers] remakes them all into excellent works. Trevon Warren, another fashionable shopper, wore largely items from his own vintage store, Portmanteau New York, including his eye-catching, checkered wide-leg jeans. According to Warren, the antique jock shirt he purchased from Rascals Vintage dates to the 1970s. "Everything in my closet is vintage." We have a sneaking suspicion that these attendees brought home even more unique things.
